Pharmacognosy

  The Department of Pharmacognosy is engaged in imparting basic and advanced aspects of different natural sources as pharmaceutical raw materials, traditional medicines, phytochemical screening and the scope of Indian medicinal plants in the allied sciences like food, nutraceuticals, and cosmetics. The department deals with the theoretical as well as practical knowledge of undergraduate courses related to pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, analytical pharmacognosy, the chemistry of natural products, herbal drug technology, and nutraceuticals. The department is offering consultancy services to the herbal drug industries, various research institutes, and cosmetic companies completed many consultancy projects.

             The branch of Pharmacognosy has undergone numerous changes and is still undergoing the same according to the needs and requirements of the society. In current scenario, is to address the safety concern of synthetic medicines, researchers focus on adopting traditional medicine based approaches and therefore, there is a need to meet the advancements in the field viz. development of sophisticated instrumental techniques to standardize herbal drugs and for the development of herb based formulations. The strength of department of Pharmacognosy in The Dale View College of Pharmacy is in its well-equipped two laboratories which fulfill all the requirements as per the Kerala University of Health Sciences.
